  • Choosing the right floor – the basis for the room's character

The floor is a room's largest continuous surface and serves as a base for both its style and atmosphere.

In both professional construction projects and private homes, the floor often remains unchanged for many years, long after other interior elements have been replaced. The choice of flooring is therefore crucial to the overall interior design.

At Vyrk, we help you find colours and materials that harmonise with walls and moulding, so that you get a consistent look that lasts over time.

How the floor affects the room

When choosing flooring, whether it's for an open-plan office, public building or your own home, you should be aware of how much of an impact it has on the room as a whole. No floor is completely neutral – it affects how we perceive both furniture, walls and the general atmosphere of the room.

The colour of the floor is reflected in the room, creating a basic tone that either enhances or weakens the other interior choices. A properly chosen floor creates harmony and emphasises the function and style of the room, without dominating or taking attention away from other important elements.

At Vyrk, you can see your stain colour together with the floor to find the perfect combination.

Practical considerations for different environments

Floors are exposed to wear and tear on a daily basis, which is why it is important to choose a type that suits the room's use and expected load. In public areas such as receptions and corridors, durability and ease of maintenance are essential. For private homes and cabins, more weight is often given to comfort and appearance, although durability remains important.

In high-traffic areas or under wheeled office chairs, scratch resistance becomes a critical factor. For kitchens, bathrooms and entrances – both at home and in commercial buildings – moisture resistance and ease of cleaning are key features. Regardless of size, most projects require a floor that balances durability with aesthetics and practicality.

Oak parquet – durability meets aesthetics

Oak parquet has long been a preferred choice in both professional environments and private homes, thanks to its outstanding durability and beautiful natural structure. At Vyrk, you will find both rustic and modern varieties in colours that suit different architectural designs and interior styles.

Rustic floors have a brushed surface, where rotating wire brushes remove the soft spring wood and accentuate the harder summer wood. This gives the floor a distinct structure and makes it more robust against scratches and daily wear and tear. Should a scratch occur, it will be less visible on a brushed floor. These floors can be treated with varnish, oil or hard wax oil for added protection in high-traffic environments.

Oak is a harder type of wood, making it particularly suitable for areas with intensive use, such as kitchens, hallways, and common areas. In addition, wood provides a naturally warm substrate that both has acoustic benefits and creates a more comfortable atmosphere – qualities that synthetic alternatives such as laminate cannot offer to the same extent.
