Vyrk nominated for Eco-Lighthouse of the Year 2022 in the category "Inspiration"

Vyrk is proud to be nominated for Eco-Lighthouse of the Year in the category "Inspiration"! Among almost 70 nominated companies, we were selected as one of six finalists – a recognition that means a great deal for our work on sustainability and innovation.

Vyrk aims to be a driving force for a more environmentally friendly construction industry and to show that sustainability and profitability can go hand in hand. By investing in locally sourced and circular wood products, such as our world-first Norwegian Sustainability Panel, with a unique deposit scheme, we are helping to reduce waste and create more responsible construction processes.

Recognition of our innovative environmental efforts

The jury highlighted our work on circular solutions for wood panelling, the development of "Smart Walls" for the new government building in collaboration with Spilka and Inventas, as well as our targeted efforts to promote innovation in the wood industry through research collaboration with NTNU and SINTEF.

The nomination for Eco-Lighthouse of the Year – Inspiration confirms that our work makes a difference. We shall continue to develop sustainable solutions for the future – and are grateful for the recognition we have received along the way!

This is what the jury wrote about Vyrk:

Did you know that it is possible to return an old panel for deposit? Vyrk's slogan is "Norwegian environmentally friendly wood from floor to ceiling", and it has recently launched the world's first deposit scheme for wood, called "the Norwegian Sustainability Panel".

The panel is locally sourced, Norwegian, has a circular life cycle, and a core of recycled material. The deposit scheme prevents panels from being used and discarded or used for fuel. This is the latest in a series of environmentally friendly solutions from Vyrk:

  • It has entered into a collaboration with Spilka and Inventas for the development of "Smart walls" for the new government buildings. The goal is to build more cheaply, quickly and sustainably using industrialised building systems. This could save society large sums of money – and will significantly improve the overall environmental footprint.

  • Vyrk works continuously to improve environmental performance and to reduce its impact on the environment. This has been done, among other things, by seeking solutions to environmental challenges in collaboration with research and development communities such as NTNU and SINTEF, Statsbygg and the authorities.

  • It is striving to become a total supplier of wood and aims to deliver Norwegian veneer and OSB boards that do not exist in Norway today. It has established "Vyrk Innovation", which will conduct targeted work to create value from the bio-based and circular production of wood.

  • It is awakening interest among young people through its involvement in Trainee Innlandet and Young Entrepreneurship, as well as by engaging students from NTNU.

Pride in sustainable innovation

"This nomination confirms that our long-term commitment to sustainability and circular solutions is moving in the right direction. At Vyrk, we have always believed that environmentally friendly products and economic growth can go hand in hand, and the deposit scheme for panels is concrete proof of this. We are particularly proud that the jury recognises our ability to think innovatively in a traditional industry," says Steinar Lyseng, Marketing and Innovation Manager at Vyrk.
